Ok I think is time for a Sketching Kit/Cartoon Portrait Giveaway!

Let's see how many of you are reading this blog this week. Since most of you probably visit this blog due to our common interest in stationery or art supplies, I decided to fill one of my vintage Faber Castell pencil tins with some random goodies that you might enjoy adding to your personal sketching kits. Just leave a comment to this post indicating you current favorite sketching tool from now until this coming Sunday August 28th 11:59 Eastern Standard Time (EST). One comment per person please. The winner will be selected with random.org and announced the following Monday morning. The winner will then have 72 hours to send me his or her maling address to receive the prize (my e-mail is listed under my Blogger profile) . Giveaway open to readers within the US only. Sorry international readers, for I have serious reservations that the package might not make it to you safely through customs and different postal services. But I am not leaving you out of the fun completely, if an international reader enters and wins this giveaway I will draw him or her a custom cartoon portrait that could be sent digitally anywhere in the world. Good luck and thanks for visiting my blog!
UPDATE: Wow! it is really fascinating to learn the variety of sketching tools currently preferred by the readers that entered the giveaway thus far. Here is a sneak peek at the prize tin and partial view of its contents. As you can see they are mostly graphite tools of different grades from across time and space with a mystery item from the distant past still hidden under the top layer of pencils.

It is so cool that you created a workaround for your overseas followers. Certainly cyberspace overcomes many boundaries. Isn't that one of the things that art does :)

Cheers from Fort Worth!

Haven't done any art in ages, but my fave sketching tool then was a .3 pentel mechanical pencil with 2H lead. I now have a .3 Kuru-Toga but have to get used to it...

My current fav sketching tool is my old Rotring .25 Rapidograph pen. I put a bit of electrical tape around the end to give it a better feel.

Got lots of favorites but most used ones has to be the two "KOH-I-NOOR Technigraph 5611 C" lead holder that I got around 30 years ago. One has 4H lead and HB in the other one.

For me, the only choice for a favorite sketching tool is the Faber Castell Design Ebony Jet Black Extra Smooth #6325. This Faber Castell version is no longer manufactured :-(

I have been using a micron 01 lately, but seem to try out too many things from jetpens! Love the old metal boxes for your kits.

My favorite sketching tool will probably be a typical mechanical pencil but I've grown used to sketching with a regular BIC ballpoint pen. lol Not very unique but they are pretty cheap. :D

Sweet little giveaway - I love that it's a bit of a mystery as to what's in the tin. Lately my favorite sketching tool is a fountain pen. Which one varies but one of my favorites is an old Rotring 600 FP with xf nib - a wonderful line. And I have a newer Rotring drafting pencil that I'm loving too.

I like to use a Pilot 2020 mechanical pencil for random sketching.

I love to begin my sketches with a light outline drawn with a .5 Cross mechanical pencil. It skims lightly across the page, just enought to get basic shapes and positions down.

favorites are my trusty micron 01, followed by watercolor wash.

My favorite sketching tools are the Mars technico 2.0mm lead holder and a Pilot Precise V5 rollerball (black).

Wow, seeing all the great sketching tools in the comments, I feel kind of bad saying my favorite sketching tool is whatever pen or pencil happens to be on the table or in my bag.

The latest? A Pilot Precicse V5 (black) that turns into the perfect gray "watercolor" when used with a water brush.

Love your blog!

Wow, this is a difficult question! I like to doodle and sketch with pretty much everything I have around me, but my favorite has to be my Hero 329 filled with Noodler's bullproof black. I like to draw in pen, though I'm not quite sure why!

I have been really enjoying my new technical Rotring 500, recommended by one of your readers, I believe. I hesitated and pushed buy and am really pleased with it as a drawing pencil.

And, I know you have lots of pencils, too. :)

I've been using a TWSBI inked with Noodler's Heart of Darkness and a Noodler's Flex inked with Lexington Gray for sketching - pretty satisfying but I might swap the inks.

I like the Uni-Ball Jetstream RT Bold. Nice thick lines, easy on the hands, and if I lose it while I'm on the go (which is all the time) it only costs a dollar to replace.

Favorite is the Eberhard Faber no copy blue felt tip marker pen, then the sailor brush pen or copic brush pen, the kuru toga roulette and my copic markers.
