While not a fan of multi-pens in particular, I picked up the
Uniball Signo MF2 gel pen/0.5 mm mechanical pencil from a clearance end cap at the local
Target out of curiosity. Thus keep in mind that I reviewed this item for its potential as a
sketching tool, and that it probably is fairly old stock given its clearance status. For reviews of its writing performance, you might want to visit the
Pen Addict and the
Office Supply Geek that probably used fresher samples at the time of their reviews.
Video review.
Initial test marks drawn on a card stock mini comic. Switching from gel pen to pencil function was accomplished by simply turning the pen clip. The mechanical pencil worked well and felt quite comfortable, but found that the gel pen had a couple of false starts and laid a broken line when working with the pen too quickly. While the mechanical pencil tip felt quite firm providing precise control, the gel pen tip had a slight "give" when first making contact with the paper.

With a little effort I was able to take the mechanical pencil components apart and replaced the
Uni Nano Dia HB leads with a couple of
Pentel Ain 2B leads instead, for I prefer a softer lead for sketching.

When sketching at faster speeds, the gel pen tip tended to skip leaving a broken line. For me that would be a deal breaker, but some might be able to incorporate that effect in their sketching style.

It is possible that this particular gel pen might have dried a bit during an extended period hanging on a store peg, but that seems unlikely since it was sealed in a blister card and the pen tip was actually covered with this green plastic coating.

The
Uniball Signo MF2 gel pen/mechanical pencil could be used as a fairly effective
sketching tool given its wide comfortable barrel and dual-function. While not terribly impressed by the gel pen performance, it was a decent buy at clearance pricing. It might just not store well for extended periods.

Hola, Alberto.
Best regards,
from Aqueduct´s town.
