Faber Castell 2 mm
F lead doodle test. First time I ever come across
F leads in this brand. Retained its sharp point longer. Yielded consistent light strokes and was fairly smooth. Would make a nice choice for developing a drawing gradually, but I prefer softer darker leads for sketching faster without indenting the paper surface.
Worth trying.
Staedtler Mars Carbon 2 mm
B lead doodle test. Nice and dark while still fairly smudge resistant. Strong, responsive, and versatile. Can deliver a nice range of values by adjusting the drawing pressure.
Recommended refill for leadholder users.
Cretacolor Nero Hard 4 (461-04) doodle test. Made in Austria. Oil base smudge resistant drawing lead. Also available as 5.6 mm drawing leads. Makes clean dark strokes while gliding smoothly on the paper. Can still be corrected with a soft eraser.
Worth adding to a field sketching kit.
General's "Wet-Proof" 881 doodle test. Made in the USA. Strong and smudge resistant lead. Good sketching pencil that might be discontinued, for I saw no reference for it in the manufacturer's website.
Worth trying.
Koh-I-Noor Magnum Black Star 1821 HB pencil
test video.

This oversize
HB pencil made marks on the lighter side. Not really delivered on the "Deep Black Graphite" claim displayed on its card.

Worked well enough and might please users that prefer wider diameter pencils.
Cretacolor Fine Art Graphite 160 pencil
test video.

While this
9B pencil does yielded dark strokes quickly and easily, it also wore down extremely fast and had a tendency to crumble. I liked the fact that its barrel color and silver markings look different enough from my other pencils. Might make for a nice collection piece, but not finding it particularly useful since I dislike crumbling leads. I tend to select sketching tools that handle cleanly and do not produce excessive debris.

I am glad I added it to my collection, but do not plan to get any more with its performance. The
Mitsubishi Hi-Uni remains my top choice even for the
10B spot with its clean handling and superior point strength that also wears down more slowly even in the softer graphite grades.
