Sanford Design Ebony 14420 Drawing Pencil Doodle tests and video

We'll take a look at another sketching tool that got lost in the shuffle shortly after it was acquired: the Sanford Design Ebony 14420 Drawing Pencil carded 2-pack. The pencils were labeled "Jet Black Extra Smooth" and certainly lived up to this claim.
When compared side by side, the Design Ebony drawing pencil and the dark Derwent Onyx pencil produced fairly similar dark sample swatches. All swatches were prone to some smudging given the softness of the leads. The Ebony lead was slightly more difficult to erase than the Onyx leads which were also shinnier.2-minute sketching demo video.
The Sanford Design Ebony drawing pencil would make a fine addition to the sketching kits of artists that enjoy soft pencil leads and don't mind a bit of smudging. Worth trying and fairly easy to find in the drafting section of office supplies stores.

Hi, I am wondering where you got your Sanford Ebony? Is it older? I have a strange dilema, I started a drawing with an old Sanford Ebony which looks like what you have. I was about 3/4 of the way through and went to look for another of them and I didn't have another. Sanford is apparently taken over by Prismacolor, and the Ebony's are now more shiney, and they do not match the rest of my drawing. I have tried every kind of pencil you can imagine, and they are either too much like colored pencil (waxy black) or too shiney. I am dying to know if you bought those recently from some place?
