Got a new 18" Metal Straight Edge

Since my old 18" aluminum ruler recently got lost with a supply cart. I had to find a replacement to safely measure and trim some of my drawing papers.
Figured might as well upgrade from my previous flat metal ruler, and get a model with a thicker cutting guard to protect my fingers form a runaway X-Acto blade: enter the Alumicutter
Side view. While I safely rested my fingers in the groove behind its elevated cutting edge, I could easily move my sharp knife alongside it. Less chance of slicing one's fingers = more time for drawing happily ever after.

That's a tough ruler! I usually break all of my plastic rulers in stupid accidents so a metal one is in high demand on my desk. I like the thick cutting guard, looks very practical in real life.
Any problems with the metal eating the tip of the pencils when dragged along it until now? Or any annoyance that would not make it a good ruler for drawing?

When I worked in a graphics shop, we had several straight-edges with a protective rail that was at least an inch high, offering great protection when doing something like cutting foam board with an exacto. Do you have, or have you used, anything like that?

Thanks for the comment. Wow a 1" high guard sounds like pretty fool proof safety ruler. Can't say that I have seen one. Yet since I'm only cutting paper thinner than foam board, this one should work ok.

Andrei, I have not used it much to discover any problems yet. Both sides are marked with inch scales, and the narrow edge seems to work fine both with pencils and technical pens.
