After noticing a couple of
blogs mention the
Staedtler Graphite 771 mechanical pencil, I realized I had never actually tried a 1.3 mm drawing lead. Thus I checked a local
Staples, and found this chunky pencil under their store label.

This is my first 1.3 mm mechanical pencil, and I found it quite comfortable with a fairly smooth HB lead. The pencil body is virtually identical to the
Staedtler Remedy with the only noticeable difference being the design of the pocket clip.

This carded set includes a couple of spare erasers and 3 graphite refills. The
Pentel Ain 0.5 mm leads tube above the 1.3 mm refills tube illustrates how much wider these thicker leads are. The larger diameter HB lead allows quicker coverage and a variety of bold strokes.

For thinner lines, the thick graphite lead can be sharpened with a 2 mm lead pointer.

The latex-free twist eraser is quite efficient but a little messy. The dark HB graphite marks erase cleanly with just a bit of debris.

Its retractable metal lead sleeve makes it pocket safe. Though given its bulky wide barrel, you might not want to carry it on a shirt pocket.

Fun inexpensive sketching tool for those that might like to try its thicker break-resistant 1.3 mm graphite drawing lead. Yet keep in mind that this larger drawing lead size can be hard to find and usually limited to HB grade refills.

If you like to sketch with thicker lead mechanical pencils, you may also want to consider Pentel Cometz Automatic Pencil. It is slightly thinner than Staedtler Graphite 771 with 0.9mm lead. The pencil has super-soft & latex-free rubber grip cushions fingertips which is very comfortable!
Thanks for the suggestion, I might give them a try sometime. Though I tend to pick even larger leads used with 2 mm, 3.15 mm, and 3.8 mm leadholders.
