Had passed on this eraser 2-pack after seeing it retail for $4.99 at
Office Depot. Though I decided to try it after finding it at the
Target Back to School supplies section for $2.39.

The
Tri Eraser body and its triangular refill. Several premium graphite pencils were used to draw lines and sample swatches to test the performance of the
Pentel Tri Eraser compared to my current favorite: the
Pilot Foam eraser.

The
Pentel Tri Eraser can erase very narrow trails across the test graphite swatches thanks to the sharp edges of its triangular profile, and its ergonomic barrel is quite comfortable to hold and easy to control.

This eraser works nicely to correct mistakes in tight areas which could be useful for writers, but it tends to leave a lot of erasure debris on the surface of the paper that can not simply be shaken off but needs to actually be brushed off.

The
Pilot Foam eraser is my current choice for my daily
sketching kit for its compact size, efficient gentle erasing on most paper surfaces, and self-cleaning performance. Its debris neatly rolls into strands that are easily removed from the work area. It can erase a wide trail across the sample lines and swatches with ease without damaging the paper or leaving a mess behind.

At the last second decided to add my
Boxy eraser to this comparison test, and it cleanly erased a nice narrow trail across all the graphite swatches while neatly rolling the erasure debris into an easily removable single strand.

Ultimately the
Pentel Tri Eraser works ok, but it is clearly outperformed by the
Boxy and
Pilot Foam erasers. The choice is clear for drawing and sketching applications.

Wow. Great eraser test. Just saw this eraser at stationeryart.com and decided to order it. I have to say I got a bit worried when you mentioned that it left a bunch of debris all over the paper, as I don't yet have a drawing table and mess can be a problem. But after, I realized I will use it precisely at what it is best. Erasing small details and such. Probably I shall buy a duster as well. Not sure about that triangular shape body thou. I guess must be somewhere near comfortable.
