The second from the bottom, the Pentel Graph 1000 for Pro Mechanical Pencil for Drafting is my absolute favorite drawing pencil. If I had to pick a single mechanical pencil from my collection, this would be it without question. The original Pentel Graph 1000 is incredibly comfortable, lightweight, sturdy, and well balanced. Its 3-piece jaws brass clutch hold the lead very securely for great control when drawing freehand. For some mysterious reason, I like the feel of the matte finish in the grip of the original black version better than the shinny silver finish in the grip of the new limited edition colors. It just seems less slippery and handles in a very precise manner. To check the comments on the other 0.5 mm mechanical pencils check the notes of the Flickr photo shown above.

Great list of pencils. I agree with your number one but I do like the new limited edition colors. I have three of them.
Thanks George! after seeing some of your extensive mechanical pencils collection in your blog, that's particularly high praise for the Graph 1000. The limited edition colors do look nice, and I got the silver and blue versions from the first limited series. Yet, the original black one feels just a tad better in my hand while drawing. I admit that from the second series, the green and purple ones looked awfully tempting for a bit.
Do they have a rotating function ? I've been meaning to buy a pacer like this ! Thanks for the review ;-)
Nope, I have yet to try a Kuru-Toga which as far as I know is the only mechanical pencil with a lead rotating mechanism. Since it is a feature that enhances writing mostly, I have not been in any hurry to add it to my collection of drawing pencils.
