Got this drawing set a long time ago, and just felt like digging it out of storage and getting reacquainted with these fine-looking tools. Only the
Art Pencil is an original component of this boxed set. I've gone through several
Art Pens after the originals were either damaged or clogged with unsuitable inks that dried inside them.

The wider nib of the
Art Pen Fine glides smoothly on the surface of the paper, and its barrel is quite comfortable to hold. The line generated is rather uniform with little variation despite the claim that it can be adjusted by varying the pressure on the nib. The ink from the cartridges is a nice dark black, but unfortunately is not waterproof.

Since I also got the
Rotring ink converters that allow the use of other fountain pen inks, I plan to test their performance with some waterproof ink in the near future.

The ink from the cartridges flows nicely without interruption even while sketching at faster speeds. With its 7" long body, the
Art Pen is not my first choice for a portable sketching tool despite its pocket clip on the cap, but it is small enough for medium sized pencil cases.

The Art Pencil is an elegant sturdy leadholder that is quite comfortable to use and accepts 2 mm lead. Reportedly they were sold only as part of the boxed sets, and they were discontinued over a decade ago. Nowadays they are rather difficult to find, so snap them right away if you happen to spot them online or in a traditional brick-and-mortal art/drafting supplies store. I reserve mine for sketching at home exclusively since I never got around picking up any spares.
