Lead Holder Time

Spent some time today testing my selection of Caran d'Ache leadholders (sturdiest black aluminum barrels with lead sizes of 2.0 mm, 3.0 mm, 4.0 mm), Worther Shorty pencil (smallest and most portable with a plastic barrel and lead size of 3.15 mm), Faber Castell TK 9400 clutch pencil (thin dark green plastic barrel with lead size of 2.0 mm), and a Sakura Sumo Grip mechanical pencil (affordable, large translucent plastic barrel, and very comfortable to hold with lead size of 0.5 mm).
The scans of these graphite sketches were tweaked using Corel Painter IX.5

Selection of the lead size and hardness depends on the desired effect and personal preference, and for my style sketching I find a 3.0 mm 3B soft lead to be pretty convenient. The thicker lead resists breakage, can produce nice dark blacks, and is fairly smudge resistant (I like the clean crisp lines produced with Caran d'Ache (Cda) leads the best, for the lines drawn with Faber-Castell (FC)leads seem to smear more easily).
Doodled this one with a 5.6 mm Cretacolor wooden lead holder inspired by the "Kirby cosmic energy bubbles"
Got to try a Pentel Quick Click 0.7 mm mechanical pencil, and came up with this little ninja clan and vignette of random faces

A Caran d'Ache 2.0 mm B sketch.
